There are two rows of five buttons on your telephone set. These are called speed-dial buttons. To program these buttons simply follow the steps below.
1. Lift the handset.
2. Press the MEM button twice, this button is beside your 6 on your keypad. You will hear your phone making all kinds of funny noises and probably even a busy signal. Don't pay any attention to that.
3. Dial 2600 and press the MEM button again (but only one time).
4. Enter the telephone number that you are wanting programmed in.
5. Press the speed-dial button that you are wanting to program. If you have done this correctly you should hear a stead beep or tone.
6. Hang up the receiver and press the speed-dial button to see if the number you programmed works. If not, try the above steps again.
NOTE: If something happens and you make a mistake in the process, just hang up the handset and try again. If you already have a speed-dial button programmed, but you wish another number was there instead. You may get rid of that number by following the steps above.
1. Lift the handset.
2. Press the MEM button twice, this button is located beside your 6 on your keypad. You will hear your phone making all kinds of funny noises and probably even a busy signal. Don't pay any attention to that.

To program a speed-dial button for an off campus number. Follow the steps at the top of this page. Don't forget to enter the number 9 (outside line) as the first number. Also you must enter a pause after the 9. To do this you must hit the redial key this will enter a pause after the 9. In the programming mode redial works as the pause key. Note: If this is a long distance number, you will need to program your long distance code. In order to do this you will need to enter two pauses after the number you are dialing. So you will need to hit the redial key twice. I would suggest to you, not to program your long distance code in a speed-dial button. You can still program the number without your code, just listen for the dial tone and then enter your code. Example without the code: mem mem 2600 mem 9 redial button, number to be dialed, speed-dial button. Example with the code: mem mem 2600 mem 9 redial button, number to be dialed, redial button, redial button, long distance code, speed-dial button.
The answer is yes. If you hear someone's telephone ringing and you would like to answer it. Pick up your handset and press 73 and that persons ext. number and you will be able to answer their call.
If you would like to program a speed-dial button to pick-up another persons telephone. Follow the programming instructions at the top of this page. The number that you will enter will be 73 plus the other persons ext. number.
Do not disturb is a feature that when turned on your telephone will not ring and it gives the caller a busy signal. Yes you can program a do-not-disturb button on your telephone. Just follow the instructions at the top of the page. Instead of entering a telephone number you would enter * 8. This would program a button to turn on do-not-disturb. You would also need to program a button to turn off do-not-disturb. The number for this is # 8. However there are some things that you need to know about do-not-disturb. Your phone will not ring when someone is calling you. This is good if you are in conference with someone. There is another down side to do-not-disturb. If someone is trying to call you from on campus, all they get is a busy signal. They don't get the choice to leave a message. They would have to go into their voice-mail and send you a message. If someone tries to call you from off campus, they do not get a busy signal. Instead the telephone system sends them back out to the main menu.
How do I check my voice-mail messages from home or from off campus? If you want to check your messages from your home. Dial the campus main number 248-4000, when the automated attendant answers press 9 and your four digit ext. number.
How do I forward my calls to another telephone?
If you are going to be away from your telephone and would like for your calls to be transferred to another telephone here on campus. Lift the handset and press *5 and the ext. of the telephone you want to transfer to. When you get back to your office and you want to release the call forward, lift the handset and press #5.
Note: you can only forward calls to a telephone here on our campus. Also you must do the call forwarding from your telephone.
I have a message that I can't delete. What do I do ? If you want to delete the message, you can wait until you have have listened to the whole message and then press 6. If that doesn't work press 3 then 6.
What is the voice-mail greeting? The voice-mail greeting is what the caller hears when they call your number and know one answers.
In our voice-mail, what is the difference between standard greeting and alternate greeting?
A standard greeting is the message that the caller will hear when you are unable to answer your phone because you are busy or not at your desk. You can record your own greeting if you like, or the system has one already recorded for you. An alternate greeting is if you are not going to be in your office for a certain amount of time. For instance if you are going to take the day off or go on vacation for a few days or maybe even if you are going to be on a business trip. You should always use an alternate greeting when you plan on being out for the day. This will let the caller know when to expect you to be back at work.
Remember: Standard greeting is for when you are at work. An alternate greeting is for when you are not at work.
