New Spam Filter
We have a new and improved spam filter! This
one is of course better, faster and easier than the last one. All emails
rated as spam will be sent directly to your Junk-Email folder in
Outlook.
Enable your spam filter
To enable your spam filter you need to check your email via the web by
simply opening the following address in your web browser :
https://mail.blackrivertech.org/exchange/
. When prompted enter your user name (email address) and password. You can
use this tool to check your email from off campus, but we need to use it
to enable your Junk-Email folder. To do so click on Options, check Filter
Junk E-mail under the Privacy and Junk E-mail Prevention section
and then click on Save and Close at the top of the page. Now that
your Junk-Email folder is enabled your spam filter will work.
Help it to learn
The new spam filter has the ability to learn. In order to train it to
do better we have to let it know what spam it missed and also what things
it has incorrectly identified as spam. In Outlook under Public Folders you
will see a set of folders named GFI AntiSpam Folders. If you receive an
email that the spam filter has missed simply click and drag the message to
the folder marked "This is spam email". If you receive an email
in your Junk-Email folder that is not spam then simply drag it back into
your Inbox and then place a copy of it into the folder marked "This
is legitimate email" by pressing the Control key (Ctrl) and dragging
it into that folder. The email server will use these messages to improve
the spam filter.
As always if you have questions or problems with the spam
filter let me know.
